LD80-compatible custom connector with copper ferrule

FEMOtech develops and manufactures custom fiber optic connectors exactly to customer specification: with individual bore diameter and concentricity from 70 µm, as high-power connectors for up to 3 kW and as high-temperature connectors up to 400 °C. Design, turned parts and metrology all come from one site in Mittenaar, Germany.

01 · Geometry

Individual bore and concentricity

Standard ferrules force your fiber into standard inner diameters. We turn and drill metal ferrules to the exact fiber you use: bore diameters from 70 µm with defined concentricity for reproducible coupling. The foundation is our CNC precision machining with in-process metrology.

Typical case: a specialty fiber with an unusual cladding diameter for which no catalog connector exists.

02 · Power

High-power connectors up to 3 kW

High laser power calls for heat dissipation instead of adhesive at its limit. Our high-power custom connectors are designed for levels up to 3 kW and rely on metal ferrules, including copper with high thermal conductivity. They are used in laser and medical technology, among other fields.

03 · Environment

High temperature up to 400 °C and special materials

For environments up to 400 °C we build connectors from matched metal material combinations, without temperature-critical polymers in the load-bearing structure. Arcap ferrules are available lead-free as Arcap Zest®.

Also in the standard programme: FSMA 905 up to 350 °C on request (data sheet).

Custom connectors are made where our precision mechanical components are made: on CNC Swiss-type lathes, accompanied by metrology at every step.

Frequently asked questions about custom solutions

What does a custom fiber optic connector cost in small quantities?

That depends on geometry, material and quantity; we produce single pieces and large series on the same machines. Send us a drawing or specification and you will receive a concrete assessment instead of an off-the-shelf price list.

What documents does FEMOtech need for a custom connector inquiry?

Ideally fiber data (core, cladding and coating diameters), the required power or temperature and, if available, a drawing as PDF, DXF or STEP. A description of the application is also enough; our design team asks the right questions in the first conversation.

Up to what laser power does FEMOtech build connectors?

Our custom connectors are designed for power levels up to 3 kW. The basis is metal ferrules, including copper with its high thermal conductivity, and a design matched to the application.

Are lead-free ferrules available?

Yes. On request we supply Arcap ferrules in the lead-free variant Arcap Zest®, for example for applications with special material requirements in medical technology.
